9명이 숨진 '시청역 역주행 참사'를 수사하는 경찰이 국과수로부터 '이번 사고는 운전자 과실'이라는 취지의 분석 결과를 받았습니다.

국과수는 사고 당시 차량에서 후미등이 켜진 걸로 알려진 것과 관련해서도 '브레이크를 밟아서가 아니라 가로등이나 주변 건물 빛이 투영됐거나,외부 충격 때문에 순간적으로 불이 들어오는 플리커 현상일 가능성이 있다'고 판단한 것으로 전해졌습니다.

조 청장은 "전반적으로 국과수 감정 결과는 심증을 형성하기엔 부족함이 없는 정도"라면서 설득력이 있었음을 거듭 시사했습니다.

다만 조 청장은 "운전자 조사 이전이라 수사에 악용될 수 있다"며 더 구체적인 감정 결과는 밝히지 않았습니다.

지난 1일 60대 운전자 차 모 씨는 서울 시청역 인근 일방통행 구간에서 역주행을 하며 시민들과 차량을 들이받아 모두 9명을 숨지게 했는데,사고 직후부터 지금까지 계속 '차량 결함에 의한 급발진'을 주장하고 있습니다.

경찰은 이후 차 씨를 추가로 조사한 뒤 구속영장 신청 여부도 검토할 방침입니다.
