케이온네트워크는 지난해 7월 전국망 인터넷 회선 서비스를 위한 기간통신사업자 면허를 취득한 기업이다.자본금으로 190억원 규모를 확보했다.과학기술정보통신부가 용도자유대역 주파수로 고시해 무상 공급받은 22㎓~23.6㎓ 대역 1.6㎓폭 주파수를 백홀로 활용해 LTE 기반 와이파이보다 20배 빠른 2.4Gbps 속도의 무료 와이파이 서비스를 제공할 예정이다.

미래모바일은 28㎓ 기지국 구축 등 사업계획을 수립하면서 축적된 인적·기술적 노하우를 활용해 케이온네트워크의 메트로 초고속 통신망 구축을 위한 무선 네트워크 시스템 및 서비스 모델 개발에 협력할 예정이다.이번 협력을 계기로 미래모바일 파트너인 트라이콤텍과도 협력한다.트라이콤텍은 이음5G 장비를 비롯해 다양한 무선통신 기술을 확보한 무선통신 R&D 전문기업이다.

양사는 무료 초고속 와이파이 서비스를 포함해 알뜰폰 생태계를 구축하고,모두의 마블 도박28㎓ 주파수 할당 취소로 제동이 걸린 정부의 이동통신 경쟁 촉진 및 통신비 부담 완화 정책을 이어간다는 계획이다.

조윤성 케이온네트워크 부사장은 "메트로 초고속 통신망에 이어 알뜰폰 생태계 혁신을 준비하고 있는 미래모바일까지 협력을 하게 돼 가계통신비 인하 효과를 극대화할 수 있을 것"이라고 말했다.

윤호상 미래모바일 대표는 "케이온네트워크가 추진하는 6대 광역시 중심의 메트로 초고속 통신망에 알뜰폰 서비스까지 결합할 경우 혁신적인 이동통신 생태계를 만들 수 있다고 확신한다"고 밝혔다.
