(인천=연합뉴스) 신민재 기자 = 인천시는 여름철 빈발하는 갯벌 고립사고를 예방하기 위해 오는 10월 말까지 무의도와 영흥도에서 야간 순찰 드론(무인기)을 운용한다고 27일 밝혔다.

시는 갯벌 이용객이 많은 주말을 중심으로 무의도 65일,프로야구 플레이오프 2차전 결과영흥도 35일 등 총 100일 동안 드론 순찰을 진행할 계획이다.

민간 전문가 2명이 조종하는 드론 2대가 해경 대원들과 보조를 맞춰 야간 간조(해수면이 가장 낮아진 상태) 때 갯벌을 순찰 비행한다.

순찰 드론에는 열화상 카메라와 확성기가 장착돼 있어 갯벌 이용객들이 출입통제구역과 위험 지역에서 벗어나도록 계도한다.

또 드론에 내장된 위성항법장치(GPS)와 통신장비를 통해 실시간으로 위치가 확인돼 인명·재산피해를 동반한 사고가 발생할 경우 신속하게 대응할 수 있다.

무의도 갯벌에서는 지난해 5∼9월 3건의 고립사고가 발생해 4명이 숨졌고 영흥도 갯벌에서도 지난해 6월 1명이 사망하는 사고가 발생했다.

시는 올해 드론 순찰에 9천만원의 예산을 편성했고 성과를 검토해 내년에 확대 여부를 결정할 방침이다.

인천시 관계자는 "야간 순찰 드론은 이동이 자유로워 사각지대가 없고 불빛이 없어도 열화상 장비로 사람 식별이 가능하다"며 "앞으로 드론 운영의 효율성과 안전성을 높여 시민 안전을 강화하겠다"고 말했다.
