조선 후기 건축 양식을 담은 포항 용계정과 분옥정이 각각 보물로 지정된다고 국가유산청이 밝혔습니다.

여강이씨 향단파가 모여 사는 덕동마을에 있는 용계정은 주변 경관을 조망할 수 있도록 누마루(다락처럼 높게 만든 마루를 뜻함)를 둔 점이 특징으로 정면 5칸,유망 암호 화폐측면 2칸으로 구성됐습니다.

1696년 건물을 지었을 당시에는 여강이씨 문중의 수양 공간으로서 정면 3칸,유망 암호 화폐측면 2칸 규모였으나 이후 증축을 거쳐 명칭을 '연연루'로 바꾸기도 했습니다.

고종(재위 1863∼1907) 대에 서원 철폐령이 내려졌을 당시 주변에 담장을 쌓고 옛 현판을 달아 화를 면한 걸로 전해집니다.

용계정은 주변 자연과 조화를 이룬 건물로 잘 알려져 있습니다.

주변을 둘러싼 덕동숲은 지난 2011년 명승(명칭은 '포항 용계정과 덕동숲')으로 지정됐습니다.

국가유산청 관계자는 "시대 흐름 속에 문중의 수양을 위한 공간에서 종합적인 용도로 건축적 공간이 확대돼 왔다"며 "조선 후기 누정 건축물이 변화하는 특징 중 하나"라고 말했습니다.

함께 보물로 지정 예고된 포항 분옥정은 숙종(재위 1674∼1720) 대에 활동한 유학자인 돈옹(遯翁) 김계영(1660∼1729)을 기리기 위해 1820년 지은 정자입니다.

용계천 계곡과 나무들이 조화를 이루며 빼어난 경관을 자랑해 '구슬을 뿜어내는 듯한 폭포가 보이는 정자'라는 이름이 붙었습니다.

국가유산청은 예고 기간 30일 동안 각계 의견을 들은 뒤,유망 암호 화폐문화유산위원회 심의를 거쳐 보물 지정을 확정할 계획입니다.
