[광주=뉴시스] 변재훈 기자 = 더불어민주당 소속 광주 지역구 모 국회의원의 사촌동생이 지난 총선 과정에서 불법 전화방을 운영한 의혹에 대해 경찰이 수사에 나섰다.

광주경찰청 반부패경제범죄수사대는 광주에 지역구를 둔 국회의원 A씨의 사촌동생 B씨를 공직선거법 등 혐의로 수사하고 있다고 11일 밝혔다.

경찰은 지난 4·10 22대 국회의원 선거 당내 경선 과정에서 B씨가 자신의 연고지이자 선거구 밖인 전남 화순에서 여론조사 독려·후보 홍보 목적의 전화방을 운영,프로야구 후반기일정불법 선거운동을 한 것으로 보고 수사 중이다.

앞서 경찰은 'A의원이 경선 후보였을 당시 B씨를 비롯한 선거사무실(캠프) 관계자들이 자원봉사자·선거운동원에게 금품·식사비를 제공했다'는 고발 사건을 수사하던 중 추가 범행 정황을 확인했다.

경찰은 B씨를 상대로 정확한 경위를 파악하는 한편 A의원 선거캠프 관계자의 연루 가능성 등에 대해서도 들여다보고 있다.

경찰 관계자는 "당초 자원봉사자 기부행위 관련 사건의 피고발인이었던 B씨의 추가 혐의를 포착해 수사 중이다.신병 처리 방향 등을 검토하고 있다"고 밝혔다．
