운전자 차모 씨가 빠져나온 호텔 지하주차장입니다.

차단기를 통과하면 좁은 통로가 나옵니다.

어렵게 밖으로 나오면 복잡한 길이 보입니다.

바닥에는 좌회전 금지표시가 있습니다.

맞은편에 차들이 달려오는데 진입금지는 왼쪽 멀리 보입니다.

사고 차량이 역주행한 교차로를 한 눈에 보이게 촬영했습니다.

호텔 지하주차장을 빠져나온 차가 갈 수 있는 길은 시청으로 향하는 우회전 길 뿐입니다.

좌회전을 해도,룰렛 경품 이벤트직진을 해도 모두 역주행입니다.

하지만 차는 세종대로 방향으로 직진을 했습니다.

이 길은 평소에도 헷갈리는 곳이었습니다.

어두운 밤에는 진입금지 표시는 잘 보이지 않습니다.

직진하면 역주행인데 우회전인 줄 착각할 수도 있습니다.

[인근 주민들 : 여기를 모르는 차들이 있어 가끔.{이게 우회전 가는 길인 줄 알고 간 거야.} {내 생각에는.} 그전에도 한 번 그런 차가…]

최근 10년 동안 이 대로에서는 매년 약 6명이 다쳤습니다.

지난 2018년에는 도로교통공단에서 교통사고가 잦다며 이곳을 개선 대상으로 꼽기도 했습니다.

하지만 단순히 교통사고 건수만 많다며 대책을 내놓은게 안전지대 확대 뿐이었습니다.

역주행 우려는 고려되지 않았습니다.

도로공단은 이번 사고를 계기로 신호등 추가설치 등 해당 구간에 대한 개선안을 마련할 예정이라고 밝혔습니다.
