포스코홀딩스는 정기섭 전략기획총괄 사장이 12일(현지시간) 아르헨티나 부에노스아이레스에서 루이스 카푸토 아르헨티나 경제부 장관을 만나 리튬 사업 협력을 논의했다고 17일 밝혔다.

포스코그룹이 아르헨티나 정부가 추진 중인‘대규모 투자에 대한 인센티브’지원 대상에 포함되면 법인세 등 세금 감면 혜택을 받을 수 있어 추가 투자에도 긍정적인 신호가 될 수 있다.포스코그룹은 2018년 아르헨티나 옴브레 무에르토 리튬 염호를 인수한 뒤 1·2단계에 걸쳐 연산 5만t 규모의 이차전지용 염수 리튬 생산 공장을 건설 중인데,로또 665회 당첨금연산 5만t 규모의 3단계 추가 투자도 검토 중이다.

포스코그룹은 리튬 매장량 세계 1위인 칠레에서도 자원 확보에 나섰다.

정 사장은 14일(현지시간) 칠레 산티아고에서 페드로 아길로 칠레 광업부 차관보와 만나 리튬 염호 개발을 협의했다.아길로 차관보는 칠레가 미국과 자유무역협정(FTA)을 체결했으므로 칠레에서 생산한 리튬이 미국의 인플레이션감축법(IRA) 혜택을 볼 수 있다며 포스코그룹의 적극적인 참여를 요청했다.포스코그룹은 현재 진행 중인 마리쿤가·알토안디노스 염호 입찰에 참여를 검토 중이다.
