정상 세포는 피하면서 암세포에만 고선량 방사선을 집중할 수 있어 치료의 부작용은 줄이고 치료 효과는 높일 수 있습니다.

국내에서는 연세암병원이 유일하게 고정형 중입자 치료기 1대와 회전형 중입자 치료기 2대를 도입해 가동 중입니다.

고정된 각도에서 고선량 방사선을 조사(照射)하는 고정형 치료기는 주로 전립선암에 쓰이며,누워있는 환자의 주위를 360도로 회전하는 치료기는 주변에 다른 장기가 있어 다양한 각도로 방사선을 조사해야 하는 췌장암,간암,폐암 등에사용됩니다.

연세암병원은 그동안 전립선암 환자 위주로 중입자 치료를 해오다 최근 췌장암,스미냑 호텔 카지노간암에 이어 이번에는 폐암까지 치료 대상을 확대했습니다.하반기에는 두경부암에도 중입자 치료를 적용할 계획입니다.
