경북 상주에서 또 철길건널목 사망사고가 발생했다.최근 1년사이 3번째다.

28일 오전 7시 22분쯤 경북 상주시 죽전동 상주 농업기술센터부근에 있는 철길 건널목에서 열차와 산타페가 충돌하는 사고가 발생했다.

이 사고로 40대 산타페 운전자가 심정지 상태로 구조돼 병원으로 이송됐으나 숨졌다.

충돌한 열차는 영주를 출발해 김천으로 향하던 무궁화호로,아시안컵 역대 조별리그열차 승객은 42명이 타고 있었으나 부상자는 없는 것으로 파악됐다.

경찰은 블랙박스 영상과 사고 당시 차단기 정상 작동 여부 등 정확한 사고 경위를 조사하고 있다.

한편 상주에서는 철길 건널목 사망사고가 잇따르고 있다.

지난 5월10일 오후 3시 34분쯤 사벌국면에 있는 철길 건널목에서 열차와 화물차가 충돌하는 사고가 발생해 60대 화물차 운전자가 숨졌다.

지난해 3월 9일에는 신봉동 경부선 오대 건널목에서 열차와 1t 화물차가 충돌해 70대 화물차 운전자가 숨졌다.

사고가 난 열차 건널목들은 주민들의 잦은 왕래에도 불구하고 열차가 운행할 경우 차단기만 작동하고 있어 항상 위험에 노출된 상태다.

열차 건널목의 잦은 사망사고가 잇따르면서 시설물 개선 및 신호와 차단기 관리 직원을 상주시켜야 한다는 지적이 나오고 있다.
