LG유플러스는 대전 연구개발(R&D) 센터에 1000kW(킬로와트)급 자가 태양광 발전 설비를 구축하고 가동을 시작했다고 30일 밝혔다.

태양광 발전 설비는 센터 주차장,챔피언스리그 관중수운동장 등을 활용한 4862㎡ 면적에 설치됐으며 양면형 태양광 발전패널 1740장이 사용됐다.

대전 R&D 센터 연간 전력 사용량의 약 11%에 해당하는 연간 137만1816kWh(킬로와트시) 전력을 생산할 수 있다.

LG유플러스는 이 설비가 국내 통신업계가 가동하는 단일 시설 태양광 발전 설비 가운데 가장 큰 규모라며,챔피언스리그 관중수이를 통해 온실가스 배출을 연간 630t 줄일 수 있다고 설명했다.

이 회사는 가상 발전소(VPP),챔피언스리그 관중수재생 에너지 전력 중개 사업(PPA) 등 재생 에너지 거래 사업에 뛰어드는 방안을 검토 중으로,2050년까지 통신설비 가동에 사용되는 전력의 100%를 재생에너지로 전환하려는‘2050 탄소중립’목표를 세웠다.
