(진주=연합뉴스) 박정헌 기자 = 경남 진주시의회 더불어민주당 소속 의원들이 최근 치러진 제9대 후반기 의장 선거가 비밀투표 원칙을 위반했다며 반발하고 나섰다.

이들은 2일 진주시청 브리핑룸에서 기자회견을 열고 "최근 의장 선거에서 특정 후보자를 찍은 기표 용지를 감표위원에게 보여줄 수 있도록 했다"며 "이는 비밀투표 원칙을 정면으로 위반한 것으로 선거 결과를 인정할 수 없다"고 주장했다.

이어 "이는 이탈표를 방지하고 특정인을 당선시키기 위한 사전공모의 결과"라며 "전체 투표 절차에서 자유로운 투표 행위가 전반적으로 억압되고 방해받았다"고 덧붙였다.

앞서 지난 1일 실시된 제9대 진주시의회 후반기 의장선거에서 국민의힘 백승홍 의원이 14표를 얻어 8표를 얻은 민주당 서정인 의원을 누르고 당선했다.

민주당 시의원들은 "시민의 공복이자 대의기관인 시의회 의장 선거에서 민주주의 원칙을 정면으로 위반한 이번 사태를 절대 용납할 수 없다"며 "이른 시일 내에 법률 대리인을 선임해 의장 선거 효력정지 가처분 신청 등 모든 법적 대응 수단을 강구하겠다"고 강조했다.
