[앵커]

서울 시청역 역주행 사고를 수사 중인 경찰이 가해 운전자가 브레이크와 액셀 페달을 착각했을 가능성을 들여다보고 있습니다.가해 운전자가 평소 몰던 버스의 브레이크 페달과 사고 차량의 액셀이 아주 비슷하다는 겁니다.저희 취재진이 직접 확인해 보니 실제로 상당히 유사했습니다.

시청역 역주행 사고를 낸 차모 씨는 40년 경력 버스 기사입니다.

차씨가 평소 몰던 것과 같은 기종의 버스를 확인해 봤습니다.

브레이크와 액셀 페달 모두 길쭉합니다.

아래가 바닥에 붙어 있고 위에서 힘을 줘 밟아야 하는 이른바 '오르간 페달' 형태입니다.

차씨가 사고 당시 운전했던 것과 구조가 같은 차와 비교해 봤더니 액셀 페달과 비슷합니다.

브레이크 페달은 가로로 넓적합니다.

경찰은 차씨가 몰던 버스의 브레이크와 사고 차량의 액셀 모양이 "외견상 아주 유사하다"며,2024 프로야구 넥센 예매차씨가 착각했을 가능성도 조사하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

실제로 사고 직후 버스 기사라고 자신을 소개한 사람은 "급발진이 아니라 습관적인 오작동이라고 생각한다"는 글을 온라인에 올리기도 했습니다.

지난해 18명의 사상자를 낸 수원역 환승센터 사고도 버스 기사의 페달 조작 실수가 원인이었습니다.

액셀 페달을 브레이크로 착각한 겁니다.

경찰은 블랙박스에 내비게이션이 우회전을 안내하는 음성이 있지만 차씨가 세종대로 방향으로 직진했다고 밝혔습니다.

하지만 차씨는 1차 조사에서 "직진이나 좌회전이 금지된 줄 몰랐다"며 "일방통행인지도 몰랐다"고 진술했습니다.
