김포시는 김포한강2 공공주택지구 지구지정이 5호선 연장 배후 수요를 확보할 수 있는 주요 동력으로 보고 있다.김포시는 또 서부권 광역교통난 해소 및 지리적으로 분절된 한강신도시를 하나의 자족도시로 완성할 수 있는 핵심적 계기를 마련했다고 평가한다.

앞서 시는 도시 자족 기능 및 특화방안,하이덴하임 대 도르트문트 라인업광역교통체계 등 다양한 분야에서 시의 여건과 비전을 담은 개발전략을 수립하고,지구계획에 반영하도록‘김포한강2콤팩트시티 개발전략 수립용역’을 착수한 상태다.

‘김포한강2공공주택지구’는 김포 마산·운양동·장기동,하이덴하임 대 도르트문트 라인업양촌읍 일원 731만㎡의 면적에 4만 6000호가 들어선다.스마트시티 기능이 대폭 도입돼 공항(김포∙인천),하이덴하임 대 도르트문트 라인업GTX,하이덴하임 대 도르트문트 라인업도시철도(5호선 신설),고속도로 IC,하이덴하임 대 도르트문트 라인업한강변 등 지리적 이점을 활용한 친수형 테마공원과 자율차,UAM(도심항공교통)등 미래형 교통 체계를 접목해 모빌리티 시대를 선도하는 특화도시로 조성된다.

김병수 시장은 “우리 시의 광역교통문제의 근본적 해결과 자족도시로의 성공적 완성을 위해서는 김포한강2지구와 서울5호선 연장의 빠른 추진이 필요하다”며 “김포한강2공공주택지구는 김포환경재생혁신복합단지 조성사업 예비 타당성 조사가 최종 통과돼 미래를 선도할 신산업 혁신단지,이와 연계한 스마트 자족도시로 성장할 것”이라고 했다.
