트럼프 대통령은 4일(현지시간) 자신의 사회관계망서비스(SNS) 트루스소셜에 "미국 영화 산업은 매우 빠르게 죽어가고 있다"며 "상무부와 미국무역대표부(USTR)에 외국에서 제작된 모든 영화에 대해 100% 관세를 부과하는 절차를 즉시 시작하도록 승인할 것"이라고 적었다.
이어 그는 "다른 국가들은 미국 영화 제작자와 스튜디오를 미국에서 사라지게 하기 위해 모든 종류의 인센티브를 제공하고 있다.할리우드와 미국 내 다른 지역들은 심각한 타격을 받고 있다"고 지적했다.
미국 영화 산업의 쇠퇴는 '국가 안보 위협'이라고 주장한 트럼프 대통령은 "이 인센티브는 다른 국가들의 조직적인 노력이며,로또 3개 보너스따라서 국가 안보에 대한 위협이다.이는 다른 모든 문제처럼 메시지이자 선전"이라고 말했다.
