혼획된 밍크고래.사진 포항해양경찰서

경북 포항해양경찰서는 5일 오후 1시쯤 포항시 남구 호미곶 강사 동쪽 약 3.7㎞ 해상에서 조업 중이던 어선 A호(7.93t급)에서 밍크고래 한 마리가 혼획됐다고 밝혔다.

혼획된 밍크고래는 길이 7ｍ 67㎝,베로나 사이트둘레 4ｍ로 측정됐다.또 국립수산과학원 고래연구센터에 의뢰한 결과 암컷으로 확인됐다.

A호 선장은 경찰 조사에서 "해당 해역에서 통발 양망 작업 중 밍크고래 1마리가 통발 원줄에 감겨 죽어 있는 것을 보고 신고했다"고 진술했다.

포항해경은 고래에서 불법 포획 흔적이 발견되지 않아 A호 선장에게 '고래류 처리확인서'를 발급했다.해당 고래는 호미곶수협 위판장에서 7619만원에 낙찰됐다.

포항해경 관계자는 "해안가 및 해상에서 죽은 고래를 발견하면 즉시 신고해 달라"고 당부했다.

한편 고래를 불법 포획할 경우 수산업법과 해양생태계의 보전 및 관리에 관한 법률에 따라 3년 이하 징역 또는 3000만원 이하 벌금에 처해질 수 있다.
