독일의 프리드리히 메르츠 기독민주당(CDU) 대표가 현지 시간 6일 총리 선출을 위한 투표에서 과반 확보에 실패했습니다.

제2차 세계대전 이후 총리 후보가 1차 투표를 통과하지 못한 첫 사례로,유럽의 지도국이자 경제 규모 1위인 독일 정치의 불확실성이 다시 커질 것이란 관측이 나옵니다.

AP,로이터통신 등에 따르면 메르츠 대표는 이날 오전 연방 하원에서 실시된 1차 신임 투표에서 전체 630표 중 310표를 받았습니다.

연방의회에서 총리로 선출돼 취임하기 위해선 과반인 최소 316표를 확보해야 했지만 6표가 모자랐습니다.

반대표는 307표에 달했고 기권 3표,그랑프리 경마무효 1표였다.

9명은 아예 투표에 참여하지 않았습니다.

그가 이끄는 CDU·기독사회당(CSU) 연합과 사회민주당(SPD)으로 구성된 새 연정이 총 328석을 확보하고 있다는 점을 고려하면 최소 18표의 이탈표가 발생한 것으로 풀이됩니다.

독일에서는 신임 총리가 취임하려면 의회 신임 투표를 거쳐야 하지만 집권당 또는 연정의 사전 합의를 형식적으로 확인하는 절차로 여겨집니다.

메르츠 대표도 애초 이날 무난히 가결돼 같은 날 취임식이 열릴 것으로 예상됐습니다.

외신들도 이날 결과가 예상 밖 전개라고 해설했습니다.

개표 상황을 생중계하던 현지 방송 진행자들조차 당혹감을 감추지 못했다고 블룸버그는 전했습니다.

규정상 1차 투표가 부결되면 2차 투표를 할 수 있습니다.

다만 2차 투표는 이날 실시되지 않을 예정이라고 독일 일간 프랑크푸르트알게마이네차이퉁(FAZ)는 보도했습니다.

메르츠 대표는 개표 결과가 나오자마자 연정 파트너들과 긴급 회의를 위해 황급히 의회를 떠났습니다.
