유럽연합(EU)이 미국과 무역협상 결렬시 보잉 항공기 수입에 관세를 부과할 계획이라고 파이낸셜 타임즈(FT)가 보도했다.

7일(현지시간) 이 신문에 따르면,윤현준 포커EU는 미국과의 무역 협상이 실패할 경우 추가 보복 조치로 약 1,000억달러(139조원) 규모의 미국산 수입품에 대한 관세 목록에 항공기를 포함할 계획이다.FT가 인용한 소식통은 이 조치는 회원국이 다수결로 승인해야 하며 미국과의 무역 협상이 실패할 경우에만 발효될 것이라고 덧붙였다.

EU는 미국에 수출하는 철강,라스베이거스 홀덤알루미늄,카지노 몬트리올자동차에 25%의 관세를 부과받고 있다.또 에어버스 항공기 등에 대해 10%의 상호 관세를 부과했다.90일간의 유예 기간이 7월 8일에 만료되면 이 관세는 20% 까지 인상될 수 있다.

에어버스의 CEO는 유럽도 보잉 항공기에 상응하는 관세를 부과해야 한다고 주장해왔다.EU는 미국이 이미 유럽의 에어버스에 10%의 관세를 부과한데 따른 상응 조치를 취함으로써 경쟁 환경이 동등해 질 것으로 예상하고 있다.

지난 2019년에 트럼프 정부는 유럽 항공분야에 10%의 관세를 부과했다.이후 2020년에는 이 관세를 15%로 올렸다.세계무역기구(WTO)는 EU가 에어버스에 불법 보조금을 지급했다고 판정한데 이어 미국 또한 보잉에 불법 보조금을 지급했다고 결론내렸고 바이든 정부에서 2021년의 관세를 중단했다.

2020년과 2021년에 유럽과 미국의 모든 항공사들은 공동으로 항공기 분야의 관세 철폐를 요구했다.
