11일 고양시에 따르면 시는 지난 3월 일부 가구에 하수도 요금이 부과되지 않은 사실을 확인하고 전수조사를 벌였다.

조사 결과 약 2000여 가구에 3∼10년 치 하수도 요금이 부과되지 않은 것을 확인했다.

이에 따라 시는 소멸시효가 지나지 않은 3년 치 요금에 대해 지난달 사전 고지했다.

총 부과 금액은 약 27억 원으로 추산된다.가구당 평균 135만 원의 요금이 부과된 셈이다.

시는 주민 부담을 줄이기 위해 최대 36회 분할 납부 신청도 가능하다고 안내하고 있다.그러나 갑작스러운 수년치 대규모 요금 부과에 대한 불만이 이어지고 있다.

고양시 관계자는 “공공하수관로 설치 시 구역별로 전산에 입력해 요금을 부과해야 하는데 일부 구역이 누락된 것”이라며 “별도의 감면 규정이 없어 일단 요금을 부과했으며 감면 가능성을 추가로 검토 중”이라고 밝혔다.
