11일 고양시에 따르면 시는 지난 3월 하수도 사용료 미부과 가구에 대한 실태조사를 벌여 사용료가 부과되지 않는 가구 등을 확인했다.

조사 결과 약 2000세대가 미부과 가구로 확인돼 미납금이 최대 27억원 규모로 파악됐다.

시가 소멸시효가 남아있는 3년치 하수도 요금을 사전고지 하면서 시민들이 반발 중이다.

고양시 관계자는 "공공하수관로 정비사업 때 구역별로 전산에 입력되도록 조치했어야 했는데 누락된 부분이 있었다"며 "법률 검토를 통해 감면 가능 여부를 확인할 계획"이라고 말했다.
