올해 말 은퇴를 선언한 미국의 전설적인 투자자 워런 버핏(94) 버크셔 해서웨이 회장 겸 최고경영자(CEO)의 후임으로 그레그 에이블(62) 부회장이 선출됐다고 미국 CNBC 방송이 4일(현지시간) 복수의 소식통을 인용해 보도했다.

CNBC에 따르면 이날 열린 버크셔 해서웨이 이사회는 에이블 부회장을 만장일치로 차기 대표이사 겸 CEO로 선출했다.

에이블은 내년 1월 1일부로 CEO에 취임한다.버핏은 회장직을 유지할 예정이다.

버핏이 회장직에 남는 것은 에이블의 CEO 승계 과정에서 조직의 안정성을 높이고 투자자에게 신뢰를 줄 수 있다고 로이터통신은 분석했다.

버핏은 지난 3일 열린 버크셔 해서웨이 연례 주주총회에서 은퇴 계획을 전격 발표해 주주들을 놀라게 했다.

그는 2021년 에이블 부회장을 후계자로 지명하고 비(非)보험 부문 경영을 맡겨왔다.

버핏은 1964년 파산 위기에 놓였던 섬유회사 버크셔 해서웨이를 인수한 뒤 연매출 4000억달러(약 561조원)에 달하는 대형 지주회사로 성장시켰다.'투자의 귀재',마작 갤 의자 좌'투자의 구루',강원랜드 슬롯머신 확률 공개'오마하의 현인'이라는 별칭으로 불린다.
