경찰청이 전국 724개 구간을 선정해 안전띠 착용 단속을 강화한다.

경찰청은 6일 '타면 착,사설토토 계좌 디시안전도 착'이라는 표어를 중점으로 홍보와 단속 등을 통해 안전띠 착용 연중 캠페인을 진행한다면서 이같이 밝혔다.

지난해 교통사고 사망자 2521명 중 운전자나 승차자 사망자는 1601명이다.

이중 절반에 이르는 약 800명 정도가 안전띠·안전모 미착용 관련 사망자로 추정된다는 게 경찰청의 설명이다.

경찰청은 "안전띠를 매지 않으면 시속 60㎞ 이하 속도에서도 큰 피해로 이어질 수 있다"며 "시속 48㎞로 차량이 정면충돌했을 때,머리에 가해지는 충격은 2.7배 커지고,뒷좌석의 경우 중상 가능성 16배,사망률이 최대 9배까지 높아진다"고 밝혔다.

특히 저속에서 연석 충돌과 같은 가벼운 접촉 사고에도 몸의 자세가 틀어져 운전 능력을 상실하고,연이어 축대벽·전신주 등에 충돌해 큰 피해가 발생하기도 한다.
