중국이 미국에 합성마약인 펜타닐 대응과 관련한 미중 대화를 미국에 제안하는 방안을 검토하고 있다고 월스트리트저널(WSJ)이 2일(현지시각) 보도했다.

WSJ은 펜타닐과 관련한 중국의 역할에 대한 트럼프 행정부의 우려를 해결하는 방안을 검토하고 있으며 궁극적으로 미국과의 무역협상을 할수 있도록 적대행위를 해소하는 방안을 검토하고 있다고 전했다.

중국 사회안전 분야의 최고위 책임자인 왕샤오훙 공안부장 겸 국가마약방지위원장은 펜타닐 문제와 관련해 중국이 무엇을 하기를 원하는지 미국에 문의했다.

미국 내 마약 관련 사망의 최대 원흉으로 꼽히는 펜타닐은 멕시코 등지의 불법 조직에 의해 제조돼 미국으로 밀반입되며,그 이전 단계에 중국산 펜타닐 원료가 밀거래를 통해 밀수출되는 것이 문제라고 도널드 트럼프 대통령은 지적해왔다.

미국은 중국 화학 제조업체와 수출업체가 펜타닐의 원료를 제공하고 있으며 펜타닐은 미국인 45만명을 숨지게하는 원인을 제공했다고 주장하고 있다.

중국은 오랫동안 강력한 마약을 통한 밀매업자 단속에 소극적이었으며 미국이 자국의 중독문제를 해결해야 한다는 입장이었다.

트럼프 대통령은 지난 1월 취임 이후 중국이 자국에서 대량 생산된 펜타닐 원료의 밀수출 근절을 위해 충분히 협력하지 않는다고 지적하면서,프리슬롯 플레이중국산 모든 제품에 대해 두차례 걸쳐 10%씩 총 20%의 관세를 추가로 부과했다.

트럼프 행정부는 중국에 총 145%의 관세를 부과했으며 중국은 125% 관세로 보복했다.

WSJ은 중국이 왕 부장을 미국으로 파견해 미국 관리들과 접촉하거나 제3국에서 미국 관리들을 회동을 검토하고 있다고 보도했다.

중국도 트럼프 행정부가 무역 공세에서 모종의 유화 조치를 취해주길 바라고 있어 미중 '펜타닐' 대화의 성사 여부는 유동적이라고 WSJ은 분석했다.
