8일(현지시간) 현지 매체 인콰이어러에 따르면 테오도로 헤르보사 필리핀 보건장관은 유튜버들의 먹방(먹는 방송·Muckbang) 콘텐츠 금지를 검토하고 있다고 밝혔다.

이는 페이스북 팔로워 47만명을 보유한 유명 필리핀 유튜버 '동즈 아파탄'이 먹방을 선보인 다음 날인 지난달 14일 사망한 데 따른 것이다.

아파탄은 숨지기 전날 치킨과 쌀을 함께 조리해 먹는 영상을 올렸다가 다음 날 심장마비로 숨졌다.

헤르보사 장관은 "그들(먹방 유튜버)은 대중들이 대식가처럼 먹도록 만들고 있다"면서 "과식은 건강하지 않다.이는 비만으로 이어진다"라고 지적했다.

특히 먹방 유튜버들이 "건강하지 않은 행태를 필리핀 국민에게 홍보하고 있다"며 "공중 보건에 위협이 되는 것들로 돈을 버는 짓은 막아야 한다"라고 강조했다.

헤르보사 장관은 먹방을 "음식 포르노(Food Porno)"라고 말하며 아파탄의 숨진 구체적인 경위를 조사한 뒤 건강 관련 규제를 위해 당국이 홈페이지·소셜미디어(SNS) 등에서 먹방을 금지 및 차단할 수 있는지 파악하겠다고 밝혔다.
