(뉴욕=연합뉴스) 이지헌 특파원 = 미국의 반려동물 용품 전자상거래업체 '츄이'(Chewy)에 '밈 주식'(온라인 입소문으로 투자가 이뤄지는 주식) 열풍을 주도해온 키스 질(계정명 로어링 키티·Roaring Kitty)이 거액을 투자한 사실이 알려지면서 1일(현지시간) 장중 주가가 급등세다.

이날 뉴욕증시에서 츄이 주가는 오전 9시 43분 기준 전 거래일 종가보다 5.3% 오른 28.7달러에 거래됐다.

츄이 주가는 이날 개장 초 전장보다 10% 높은 30달러까지 치솟기도 했다.

앞서 츄이는 이날 개장 전 공시에서 키스 질이 회사 지분 6.6%(900만1천주)를 취득했다고 알렸다.

해당 지분의 가치는 지난달 28일 종가 기준으로 2억4천500만 달러(약 3천400억원)에 달한다.

질은 지난 2021년 미 증시에서 공매도 세력을 상대로 '개미들의 반란'을 주도했던 개인 투자자다.

그는 최근 게임스톱 주식의 대규모 매수 잔고를 보유하고 있다고 계좌화면을 공개하며 게임스톱 주가의 급등락을 유발한 바 있다.
