2024 파리올림픽·패럴림픽 일부 수영 종목이 열리는 프랑스 파리 센강의 수질이 수영에 적합한 수준으로 개선됐다.

4일(현지시간) AFP통신에 따르면,이날 파리시는 지난달 24일∼이달 2일 센강 4개 지점에서 채취한 샘플을 분석한 결과 대장균과 장구균 농도가 유럽과 수영연맹의 수영 가능 기준에 적합했다고 밝혔다.시장실은 성명을 통해 “대장균 수치가 4일 연속 기준 이하로 떨어졌다.이러한 긍정적인 발전은 햇살 및 따뜻한 온도와 더불어 센강의 수질을 개선하기 위한 전략과 작업의 효과”라고 설명했다.

유럽연합의 2006년 수질 지침에 따르면 대장균은 100㎖당 최대 900CFU(미생물 집락형성단위,키타큐슈 아울렛Colony-forming unit),키타큐슈 아울렛장구균은 100㎖당 330CFU 이하로 검출돼야 수영이 가능하다.세계수영연맹의 수질 기준상 대장균의 최대 허용치는 100㎖당 1000CFU,키타큐슈 아울렛장구균은 400CFU다.이 기준을 초과한 물에서 수영할 경우 위장염이나 결막염,키타큐슈 아울렛외이염,키타큐슈 아울렛피부 질환 등에 노출될 위험이 있다.

파리시와 일드프랑스 지방정부가 지난달 초부터 주 단위로 센강 박테리아 분석 조사를 시작한 이래 수영 가능 기준 이하로 세균이 검출된 건 이번이 처음이다.한때 대장균 수치가 기준치의 10배에 달해 센강에서 수영 대회를 치르기 부적합하다는 비판이 쏟아졌다.정부가 센강 정화 작업에 막대한 예산을 쓰며 최근 온라인상에선‘센강에 똥을 싸자’는 캠페인으로까지 번졌다.

다가오는 2024 파리올림픽·패럴림픽에서 센강은 이달 30일~31일과 다음달 5일에 열리는 철인 3종 수영 종목에 사용될 예정이다.다음달 8~9일에는‘수영 마라톤’으로 불리는 오픈 워터 수영이 열린다.

센강의 수질이 대회 때까지도 적절히 유지될지는 날씨에 달렸다.폭우가 쏟아지면 빗물과 폐수가 센강에 섞여 들어 오염도를 높일 수 있으며 유속도 빨라진다.당국은 이 경우 대회를 며칠 연기할 수는 있지만 대회 장소를 바꿀 계획은 없다는 입장이다.
