대상지는 목동택지개발지구 관문 지역으로 안양천,캐시로또 돈버는 퀴즈이대목동병원,캐시로또 돈버는 퀴즈목동종합운동장 등 도시 기능이 연결돼 있다.지상 공원화를 조성하고 있는 국회대로를 접하고 있는 주거입지 여건이 손꼽히는 지역이기도 해 신속통합기획 가이드라인에 따라 정비구역 지정 및 정비계획안을 마련했다.

정비 계획안에 따르면 목동 6단지 아파트는 용적률 299.87%,최고 49층 이하,15개동 2173가구(공공주택 273가구)로 재건축 한다.

대상지 북측 도로(목동동로,25m)과 서측 도로(목동동로18길,15m)를 각각 5m,4m 확대해 자전거와 보행 이용률이 높은 목동 주민의 편의성을 최대화한다.동측 및 남측에 경관녹지 2개소를 연결해 보행·녹지 네트워크도 강화했다.

아울러 마이스(MICE: 기업회의·포상관광·컨벤션·전시) 단지로 개발 예정인 목동종합운동장·유수지와 연결을 위해 국회대로 상부에 입체 보행육교를 계획했다.안양천으로의 접근성 강화를 위한 수직 이동시설(엘리베이터)을 계획해 주변 지역과의 연계성을 강화했다.

한병용 서울시 주택실장은 "목동 14개 단지 중 가장 먼저 재건축을 추진하는 목동6단지 아파트가 목동택지지구 신속통합기획 선도 사례"라며 "목동지구 단지들의 신속통합기획(자문사업)으로 활발히 추진 중인 만큼,이번 목동6단지 재건축으로 다른 단지들도 탄력을 받아 목동지구 전체의 주거 환경이 크게 개선될 것으로 기대한다"고 밝혔다.

목동 택지 14개 단지 중 신속통합기획을 추진한 목동 6단지를 제외한 다른 13개 단지는 자문과 입안(법정) 절차를 병행 추진할 수 있는 신속통합기획(자문사업)을 진행하고 있다.
