미국 전기차업체 테슬라의 주력 제품인 모델Y가 중국 정부의 관용차 조달 목록에 처음으로 포함됐다고 로이터통신이 오늘(4일) 보도했습니다.

통신은 펑파이신문 등 중국 매체를 인용해 장쑤(江蘇)성 정부가 지난달 초 발표한 56종의 신에너지 차량 조달 목록에 모델Y가 포함됐다고 전했습니다.

장쑤성 내 당과 정부,킨 샌들공공기관들은 이 목록에 오른 차 가운데 관용차로 쓸 모델을 구매해 사용할 수 있습니다.

테슬라 차량이 중국 정부의 관용차 목록에 포함된 것은 이번이 처음이라고 통신은 전했습니다.

테슬라 외에도 중국 지리 자동차에 매각된 스웨덴 볼보의 XC40이 포함됐으며 나머지 54종은 중국 토종 브랜드의 전기차와 하이브리드 차량입니다.

순수 외국 브랜드로는 테슬라가 유일하게 조달 목록에 포함된 셈입니다.

장쑤성의 한 관계자는 테슬라 모델Y에 대해 "수입차가 아니라 상하이에서 제조된 국산 자동차이기 때문에 선정된 것"이라고 말했습니다.

테슬라 자동차는 중국 정부기관 일부와 군사기지 등에서 금지돼왔습니다.

그런데도 이번에 중국 관용차로 채택될 수 있는 길이 열리게 된 데에는 지난 4월 중국 당국이 테슬라를 대상으로 한 데이터 안전 검사에서 외자기업 최초로 '적합' 판정을 내린 것과 관련이 있다는 분석이 나옵니다.

여기에다 당시 일론 머스크 테슬라 최고경영자(CEO)가 중국을 방문해 중국의 2인자인 리창 국무원 총리와 면담한 것도 도움이 됐을 것이라고 로이터는 전했습니다.

테슬라는 미·중 갈등에도 중국 진출과 투자에 적극적인 대표적 미국기업으로 꼽힙니다.

테슬라는 상하이에 미국 바깥에 지은 첫 공장인 '기가팩토리3'를 세워 2019년 1월부터 가동에 들어갔습니다.

이 공장은 2019년 12월 첫 완성차를 만들어냈고 2년 뒤인 작년 8월 100만 번째 차량을 생산한 데 이어 지난해 9월 기준으로 200만 대 생산을 달성했습니다.
