강원도에서는 바이오 국가첨단전략산업 특화단지에 지정받기 위해 1년간 25개 기관과 12번의 MOU를 체결하며 강원 바이오 특화단지 헙력체계를 구축했으며 강원 바이오 특화단지에 투자의향서를 제출한 기업은 모두 합해 52개 기업,3조 3553억 원 규모이다.

또한 지자체장의 강한 의지를 피력하기 위해 김진태 지사가 서울 한국기술센터에서 열린 특화단지 공모전 평가회에 직접 PT발표에 나서 지역 자체적으로 집중 육성해온 강원 바이오 산업의 기반을 강조하기도 했다.

김진태 강원특별자치도지사는 "춘천은 30년 전 바이오 산업에 뛰어들고,홍천은 12년 전 항체연구를 시작한 이래 처음으로 제대로 된 국가의 지원을 받게 되었다"며 "투자규모가 우리의 10배인 인천 송도 등과 어깨를 나란히 하게 됐다"고 전했다.
