‘뺑소니 혐의’로 재판에 넘겨진 트로트 가수 김호중 씨를 변호해 왔던 검찰총장 직무대행 출신 조남관 변호사가 첫 재판을 일주일 앞두고 사임했습니다.

조 변호사는 어제(3일) 김 씨의 사건을 심리하는 서울중앙지법 형사26단독(판사 최민혜)에 사임서를 제출했습니다.

조 변호사는 당초 검찰 수사 단계까지만 변호를 맡기로 했던 것으로 전해졌습니다.

2020년 윤석열 당시 검찰총장이 직무 정지되자 총장 직무대행을 맡았던 조 변호사는 지난 5월 김 씨의 변호인으로 선임되는 과정에서‘전관 변호사’논란이 불거졌습니다.

조 변호사는 경찰이 김 씨의 비공개 귀가 불허 방침에 강하게 항의하며 주목을 끌기도 했습니다.

조 변호사가 사임하면서 김 씨 사건의 변호인은 검사 출신인 추형운 변호사만 남게 됐습니다.

김 씨의 첫 공판은 오는 10일 열릴 예정입니다.
