애플이 유럽연합의‘과징금 폭탄’을 피하기 위해 이르면 이달 말부터 사실상 유럽 전역에서 애플페이 외에 다른 결제 방식을 허용하기로 했습니다.

이번 개방 조치로 유럽 내 아이폰 이용자는 애플페이 대신 알파벳의‘구글 페이,컴퓨터 램 슬롯 추가삼성의‘삼성페이’도 사용할 수 있게 될 전망입니다.

현지시간 11일 CNBC에 따르면 마르그레테 베스타게르 유럽연합 경쟁담당 수석 부집행위원장은 브뤼셀에서 기자회견을 열고 “애플은 아이폰의‘탭앤고’(tap-and-go) 기술에 경쟁업체들의 접근을 허용하기로 약속했다”고 밝혔습니다.

‘탭앤고는’휴대폰을 가져다 대면 결제되는 근거리 무선통신(NFC) 결제 방식으로 애플은 그간 아이폰 등 자사 기기에서 애플페이만을 허용해왔습니다.

유럽연합 집행위는 2020년 애플페이의 시장 지배력 등을 고려해 반독점법 조사를 개시했고,컴퓨터 램 슬롯 추가애플은 결국 올해 1월 경쟁사가 아이폰이나 아이패드 등에서 NFC를 무료로 이용할 수 있게 하겠다며 시정안을 냈습니다.

집행위는 애플이 이달 25일까지 시정안을 이행해야 한다며,컴퓨터 램 슬롯 추가약속을 이행하지 않을 경우 연간 총매출의 최대 10% 규모 과징금과 일일 매출의 5%에 대한 이행 강제금이 부과될 수 있다고 밝혔습니다.

이번 조치는 유럽연합 27개국을 포함한 유럽경제지역 전역에서 10년간 유지됩니다.
