24일 경기도 화성시 서신면 소재 일차전지 제조 업체에서 화재가 발생해 소방대원들이 인명수색 작업을 하고 있다.연합뉴스

경기 화성시 소재 일차전지 제조업체인 아리셀 공장에서 화재가 발생한 가운데 21명이 연락이 되지 않고 있다.

24일 경찰과 소방당국에 따르면 화재 발생 약 4시간이 지난 오후 2시 30분 기준 현재 연락이 닿지 않는 근로자는 21명으로 조사됐다.

불은 공장 11개 동 중 3동 2층에서 발생했다.당시 화재현장인 3동에서 일하던 근무자는 1층 15명,배너출력2층 52명 등 총 67명이다.

소방당국은 이 중 21명이 미처 불길을 피하지 못하고 건물 내부에 고립된 것으로 추정 중이다.

현재까지 인명 피해는 사망 1명,배너출력중상 2명,배너출력경상 4명 등이지만 공장 내부에 리튬 배터리 완제품 3만 5000여 개가 보관 중인 것으로 전해지며 향후 인명피해 규모가 상당히 늘어날 가능성이 있다.

사망자는 60대 남성이며,배너출력발화 지점인 3동 2층에서 발견됐다.부상자 6명은 30-60대 남성으로 알려졌다.지금까지 나온 사상자는 모두 한국인이다.

앞서 이날 오전 10시 31분 화성시 서신면 소재 일차전지 제조 업체인 아리셀 공장 3동에서 화재가 발생했다.

목격자에 따르면 불은 배터리 셀 하나에서 발생해 주변의 배터리에서 연쇄 폭발이 일어난 것으로 알려졌다.

김진영 화성소방서 재난예방과장은 1차 브리핑에서 "선착대 도착 당시 내부에 있던 배터리 셀이 연속 폭발하며 급격히 불이 번져 진화에 어려움이 있었다"며 "현재 구조 대원이 내부로 들어가 수색하는 것은 불가능하다"고 전했다.

진화 작업에 관해서는 "리튬 배터리는 금속성 물질이라 물로 진화할 수가 없다"며 "마른 모래와 팽창 질석을 준비해 놓고 있는데 내부에 진입할 상황은 아니다"라고 덧붙였다.
