신숙주 초상(확대) [국가유산청]

[헤럴드경제=이정아 기자] 조선 세조 때의 대표적인 명신인 신숙주를 그린 초상화가 국보로 지정된다.

3일 국가유산청은 현존하는 공신 초상화 중 가장 오래된‘신숙주 초상’을 국가지정문화유산 국보로 지정 예고했다.공신 초상화란 나라에 공로가 있는 신하를 책봉할 때 왕실의 도화서에서 그려 왕이 하사하는 그림을 의미한다.

충북 청주에 세워진 사당인‘구봉영당’(九峯影堂)에 봉안돼 전해진 그림은 지난 1977년 보물로 지정됐다.이번 국보 지정에 대해서 국가유산청 측은 “조선 전기 공신 초상화를 대표하는 작품”이라며 “조선 공신 초상의 원형을 비교적 충실하게 보전하고 있고 연대 특정도 가능해 미술사적·역사적으로 가치가 높다”고 설명했다.

초상화에는 문관 3품을 상징하는 백한(白·꿩과의 새)이 그려진 녹색 관복을 입고 은으로 장식된 허리띠 삽은대까지 착용해 전형적인 문관 3품의 복식을 갖춘 30대의 젊은 신숙주의 모습이 담겼다.이를 통해 신숙주가 좌익공신이 됐을 때 포상했던 1455년(세조 1년) 제작된 것으로 추정된다.

얼굴은 코를 경계로 좌측이 좀 더 짙게 보이도록 음영 처리했다.눈두덩과 뺨에도 물을 먼저 칠한 뒤 마르기 전 수묵이나 채색을 올려 은은한 느낌을 주는 선염 처리를 했다.이러한 회화는 서양 화법이 수용되기 전 조선 전기 초상화의 특징이다.

국가유산청은 30일간 의견 수렴과 검토,madnix casino france문화유산위원회 심의 등을 거쳐 국보로 최종 지정할 예정이다.
