중국 전기차 제조기업인 비야디(BYD)의 호주 시드니 매장 모습.ⓒAP/뉴시스[데일리안 = 정인균 기자] 중국 전기차 제조업체 비야디(BYD)가 튀르키예에 10억 달러(약 1조 3848억원) 규모의 생산 공장을 건설한다고 AFP통신이 8일(현지시간) 보도했다.

튀르키예 정부는 BYD가 2026년 말까지 신규 공장을 지을 예정이라며 여기엔 전기차 연구 및 개발(R&D) 센터도 포함됐다고 설명했다.

왕찬푸 BYD 회장은 이날 이스탄불에서 메흐메트 파티흐 카즈르 튀르키예 산업기술부 장관과 이같이 합의했다면서 약 5000명의 현지 노동자를 고용할 예정이라고 밝혔다.이번 협약은 유럽연합(EU)이 중국 전기차에 최고 47.6%에 이르는 관세율을 적용할 것이라고 밝힌 지 불과 사흘 만에 체결됐다.

튀르키예는 EU 회원국이 아니지만 1996년 EU와 맺은 관세동맹에 따라 튀르키예에서 만들어진 자동차를 추가 관세 없이 유럽에 수출할 수 있다.
