외국 영화에 관세를 매기겠다는 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령의 발언에 대해 백악관이 "최종적인 결정은 아니다"라며 진화에 나섰다.

백악관은 5일(현지시간) USA투데이 등에 쿠시 데사이 대변인 명의로 성명을 보내 "외국 영화 관세에 다한 최종 결정은 내려지지 않았다"고 밝혔다.백악관은 "정부는 할리우드를 다시 위대하게 만들고 미국의 국가 및 경제 안보를 보호하기 위해 모든 옵션을 검토 중"이라고 덧붙였다.

USA투데이는 이날 백악관의 보낸 성명은 트럼프 대통령의 기존 방침에 비해 후퇴했다고 분석했다.전날 트럼프 대통령은 자신의 사회관계망서비스(SNS)에서 "외국에서 제작된 모든 영화에 100% 관세를 매기도록 상무부와 무역대표부(USTR)에 지시했다"고 말했다.하워드 러트닉 상무장관 역시 자신의 엑스(X)에 "작업 중"이라는 내용을 올리며 호응했다.

다만 구체적인 관세 대상은 언급하지 않았다.특히 관세 부과 대상에 온라인동영상서비스(OTT)에 공개된 작품도 포함되는지 모호한 상황이다.
