2024 CES에 참가한 현대모비스 /사진=현대모비스 미국 정부가 11일(현지시각) 미시간 등 8개주의 전기차 공급망 강화를 위해 총 17억 달러(약 2조3351억 원) 규모의 보조금을 투입한다고 발표했다.이번 보조금 대상엔 현대모비스 미국 법인도 포함됐다.

보조금이 지급되는 8개 주에 소재한 기존 공장 11개를 연간 100만대 규모의 전기차 생산 설비로 전환하는 데 쓰인다.이번에 보조금 지급 대상으로 선정된 기업은 현대모비스,연합 뉴스 경남 취재 본부GM(제너럴모터스),연합 뉴스 경남 취재 본부할리데이비슨,연합 뉴스 경남 취재 본부볼보,연합 뉴스 경남 취재 본부피아트·크라이슬러,연합 뉴스 경남 취재 본부ZF 등 8개다.

현대모비스 자회사인 아메리칸 오토파트스가 플러그인 하이브리드차(PHEV) 공장으로 전환할 예정이라고 백악관은 발표했다.툴레도 일대에 배터리 조립 공장도 조성할 계획이다.미국 정부는 현대모비스에 총 3260만달러(약 447억9566만원)의 보조금을 지급하기로 했다.

바이든 대통령은 이날 성명을 통해 "미국에서 자동차 산업의 미래를 만드는데 도움이 될 것"이라며 "친환경 경제는 노조와 자동차 기업 모두에게 윈윈 전략"이라고 말했다.
