(서울=연합뉴스) 주종국 기자 = 워런 버핏이 이끄는 버크셔 해서웨이(이하 버크셔)가 중국 전기차업체 비야디(BYD) 지분을 또 매각했다.

버크셔가 25일(현지시간) 홍콩 증권거래소에 제출한 서류에 따르면 버크셔는 지난 19일 비야디 지분을 5.99%로 줄였다.이달 11일까지만 해도 비야디 지분은 7.02%였다.

홍콩 당국은 대주주의 지분율이 하락할 때마다 공시하도록 요구하고 있다.버크셔는 비야디 지분이 5% 이하로 떨어진다면 더 이상 매도 공시를 하지 않아도 된다.

버크셔는 지난 2008년 비야디에 투자했다.당시 2억3천만 달러를 투입,로또 2등 당첨지역주식 2억2천500만주를 취득하면서 지분 10%를 확보했다.

이후 2022년 8월부터 버크셔는 비야디 지분을 팔기 시작했다.비야디 주가가 20배 이상 상승한 후였다.버크셔의 지분 매각이 시작된 지 두 달 만에 비야디 주가는 사상 최고치를 기록했지만 이후 하락해 지금까지 약 28% 떨어졌다.

지금은 고인이 된 찰리 멍거 당시 버크셔 부회장이 비야디 투자를 주도했으며,로또 2등 당첨지역주로 미국 기업에 투자하던 버핏은 그를 전적으로 신임하며 투자를 맡겼다.

비야디는 1995년 중국 화학자였던 왕촨푸가 설립했다.충전식 배터리 제조업체로 시작했지만 전기차를 직접 만들기 시작해 지난해에는 테슬라를 제치고 세계 최대 전기차 업체가 됐다.올해 1분기에는 다시 테슬라가 1위로 복귀했다.
