미국 최대도시 뉴욕에서 북미 한류의 전진기지 역할을 할 '뉴욕코리아센터'가 정식으로 문을 열었습니다.

문화체육관광부는 27일(현지시간) 오후 7시 미국 뉴욕 맨해튼 32번가에서 뉴욕코리아센터 개원식이 열린다고 밝혔습니다.

1979년에 개원해 올해로 45주년을 맞이한 주뉴욕한국문화원은 그동안 맨해튼 파크애비뉴에 있는 22층 건물 중 6층 일부를 임차해 사용하고 있었습니다.

하지만 한국문화에 대한 현지의 관심이 지속적으로 증가함에 따라 현재 위치인 맨해튼 32번가에 뉴욕코리아센터를 건립해 확장 이전했습니다.

'코리아센터'는 한국문화원과 한국관광공사,스크린야구장가격한국콘텐츠진흥원,스크린야구장가격세종학당 등 한국문화를 알리는 기관이 함께 입주해 한국문화의 다양한 요소를 유기적으로 연계한 종합 서비스를 제공하는 곳입니다.

LA와 상하이,스크린야구장가격도쿄,베이징,파리에 이어 뉴욕에 6번째로 문을 열었습니다.

뉴욕코리아센터는 연면적 3천383㎡로,지하 2층부터 지상 7층 규모의 건물 전체를 사용합니다.

개원식에는 유인촌 문체부 장관을 비롯해 뉴욕 링컨센터 조다나 리 공연 프로그래밍 부예술감독,조각가 존 배,스크린야구장가격뮤지컬 '위대한 개츠비'를 제작한 신춘수 오디컴퍼니 대표,의상디자이너 린다 조 등 150여 명이 참석할 예정입니다.

유인촌 문체부 장관은 "뉴욕코리아센터 부지는 15여 년 전 장관으로서 매입하기로 결정해 개인적으로도 각별한 곳"이라며 "당시만 해도 한국문화가 뉴욕에서 오늘날과 같은 인기를 누릴 것이라고는 상상하지 못했다"고 말했습니다.

유 장관은 "전 세계인이 한국문화·관광을 즐기고 한국 관련 상품을 소비하기를 열망하는 문화 강국으로 우리나라가 발돋움하는 데 뉴욕코리아센터가 힘이 돼주길 기대한다"고 덧붙였습니다.
