협회는 "그동안 미국 전역의 5대 도시에서만 빌보드 광고를 운영했으나 올해는 현대자동차그룹의 협찬으로 10개 도시의 고속도로에 광고하게 됐다"고 말했습니다. 박선근 협회 회장은 "미국의 참전용사에게 고마움을 전하는 이 광고를 보는 인원이 이전보다 2배 이상 늘 것으로 예상한다"고 밝혔습니다.
한미우호협회는 1996년부터 올해까지 28년 동안 '한국전쟁 참전용사 정전기념일'(7월27일)에 맞춰 미국 내 주요 도로에 빌보드 광고를 하고 있습니다.
한미우호협회는 이달 26일에는 조지아주 1818클럽에서 한국전쟁 참전용사와 그 가족,파워볼 얼마한인 단체 관계자 등을 초청해 추모 행사를 진행할 예정입니다.
프랭크 블레이크 한미우호협회 이사장은 "전쟁의 아픔을 딛고 일어난 한국은 산업화에 성공해 국가를 재건하고 세계 10대 부국으로 성장했다"며 "한국인들은 이러한 성공에 미국이 흘린 피와 사랑이 있었음을 기억하고 있다"고 말했습니다.
