광복절을 앞두고 독도 모형을 철거해 논란을 일으켰던 서울교통공사가 독도의 날에 맞춰 새로운 독도 조형물을 설치하겠다고 15일 밝혔다.

공사는 서울 지하철 시청역,라리가 중계이태원역에 설치된 독도 조형물을 고쳐 10월 25일 독도의날에 맞춰 새롭게 선보이겠다고 밝혔다.이미 철거된 조형물은 승객의 동선을 방해하지 않도록 벽면에 액자 형태로 새롭게 재설치한다.

공사는 승객 증가로 인해 안전 문제가 발생할 수 있다며 잠실역,안국역,라리가 중계광화문역의 독도 조형물을 철거해 폐기했다.(국민일보 8월 14일 <왜 치웠지?… 잠실·안국 지하철역서 독도 조형물 철거> 참고)

독도 조형물은 지난 2009년 이상용 서울시의원 등이 발의한‘독도 수호를 위한 서울시 대책 마련 촉구 건의안’의 하나로 서울 지하철역 6곳에 설치됐다.설치 후 15년간 제자리를 지키던 독도 조형물이 광복절을 앞두고 철거됐다는 사실이 알려지며‘독도 지우기’의혹이 제기됐다.
