(멕시코시티=연합뉴스) 이재림 특파원 = 재선 도전 포기 압박을 받는 조 바이든 미국 대통령의 '대안 후보'로 카멀라 해리스 부통령이 강력하게 거론되는 가운데 해리스 부통령의 남편이 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)에 걸렸다고 AP통신이 7일(현지시간) 보도했다.

보도에 따르면 해리스 부통령의 남편인 '세컨드 젠틀맨' 더글러스 엠호프는 전날 경미한 증상을 보인 후 시행한 검사에서 코로나19 확진 판정을 받았다고 엠호프의 대변인인 리사 아세베도가 밝혔다.

해리스 부통령은 검사 결과 음성으로 나왔다고 AP는 전했다.

해리스 부통령은 9일 예정된 라스베이거스에서의 선거 유세 일정을 정상적으로 소화할 전망이다.

엠호프는 지난 2022년 3월에도 코로나19에 확진된 적 있다.당시 해리스 부통령은 그로부터 한 달 후 양성 판정을 받았다.

바이든 대통령의 경우 2022년 7월 확진 및 격리 해제 며칠 뒤 다시 감염 증상을 보여 치료받았다.

해리스 부통령은 지난 달 27일 첫 TV 토론 이후 당 안팎에서 강한 사퇴 압박을 받는 바이든 대통령의 '대안 후보'로 오르내리고 있다.
