초기 버전…설계·운전 적합성 검증설비로 활용 예정

한국수력원자력(이하 한수원)이 혁신형 소형모듈원자로(i-SMR)의 운전 적합성 검증을 위한 시뮬레이터를 한수원 중앙연구원에 구축했다.

28일 한수원에 따르면 정부의 지원 속에서 개발 중인 i-SMR은 기존 1천㎿(메가와트) 이상의 대형 원전 대비 발전 용량을 170㎿로 줄이고 모듈화 제작 기법을 적용한 한국형 소형모듈원자로다.

건설 공사 기간을 획기적으로 단축하고 사고 시 원자로를 냉각시키는 안전 설비가 별도의 조작이나 전원 없이 작동하도록 설계돼 안전성을 대폭 향상할 수 있다는 게 한수원 측 설명이다.

i-SMR은 지난해 말 개념 및 기본 설계가 마무리됐고,내일의야구경기내년 12월까지 표준 설계가 진행된다.

i-SMR 운전 검증용 시뮬레이터는 설계 및 운전 적합성을 검증하는 설비로 활용될 예정이다.

시뮬레이터 운용 과정에서 도출되는 검증 결과는 향후 표준 설계 진행 과정에 반영할 계획이다.

개발된 시뮬레이터는 i-SMR의 개념 및 기본 설계를 반영한 초기 버전이다.한수원은 추가 설계 사항을 계속 추가로 반영해 2025년 9월 1차 개발 완료를 목표로 하고 있다.

신호철 한수원 중앙연구원장은 "충실도 높은 시뮬레이터를 만들어 i-SMR 표준 설계 인가 획득에 일조할 수 있도록 기존 대형원전 시뮬레이터 개발 경험과 한수원 연구원들의 역량을 최대한 집중하겠다"고 말했다.
