한밤에 고속도로에서 운전을 하다 맞은편 차량에서 나오는 레이저 불빛에 피해를 보는 운전자가 속출하고 있습니다.

갑작스런 불빛에 시야가 흐려지면서 아찔한 사고로 이어질 수도 있어,'레이저 공격'을 받았다고까지 말할 정도인데요.

그 실태를 김소영 기자가 취재했습니다.

자정 넘은 고속도로,로또 아웃도어갑자기 반대 차선에서 긴 초록빛이 나타납니다.

사방으로 번지며 운전자 시야를 방해합니다.

맞은편 차량에서 쏜 레이저 불빛입니다.

눈 뜨기 어려울 만큼 불빛이 강해 하마터면 큰 사고가 날뻔한 아찔한 순간입니다.

[피해 운전자 : "레이저를 맞고 눈이 따가웠고 잔상도 남았었는데,그때 당시에 고속 주행이었고 주변에 졸음 쉼터나 차를 세울만한 곳이 보이지 않아서…."]

온라인상에선 비슷한 경험담을 손쉽게 볼 수 있습니다.

레이저 장치를 구하는 것도 어렵지 않습니다.

늦은 밤.비가 오거나 안개가 자욱할 때 시야 확보를 위해 주로 화물차 운전자들이 사용합니다.

[화물차 운전자 : "멋을 내려고 연두색이나 이런 레이저 같은 색깔로 변형해서 장착하는 경우가 (있습니다)."]

하지만 대부분 불법 부착물입니다.

[전홍재/한국교통안전공단 기술안전처 : "자동차 관리법령에서 정하지 않은 등화 장치이므로 점검 정비 및 원상복구 대상입니다."]

레이저 장치를 손에 쥔 채 앞차를 불빛으로 위협하는 운전자도 있습니다.

[박아롱/변호사 : "큰 사고로 이어질 가능성이 있기 때문에 보통의 폭행죄보다 무겁게 처벌될 수 있습니다."]

한밤,레이저 장치를 단 차량은 번호판 식별이 어려운 탓에 단속도 쉽지 않아 대책 마련이 시급합니다.
