서울남부지검 가상자산범죄합동수사단(단장 박건욱)은 11일 특정금융정보법 위반 등 혐의로 재판에 넘겨진 코인업체 업주 A(40)씨와 영업이사 B(40)씨에게 각각 징역 3년,징역 2년이 선고됐다고 밝혔다.

범행에 가담한 직원 3명에게는 각각 징역 1년 집행유예 2년,징역 1년 6개월 집행유예 3년,맨시티 아스날징역 10개월 집행유예 2년이 선고됐다.

검찰에 따르면 A씨 등은 지난 2021년 3월부터 지난해 11월까지 가상자산사업자로 신고하지 않은 불법 OTC(Over the Counter·장외거래) 거래소를 만들어 4000억원 상당의 코인을 매매·알선·중개한 혐의를 받는다.

A씨와 아내 C(35)씨는 2019년 5월부터 지난해 11월까지 환전소를 운영하며 중국 위안화 약 70억원을 국내 원화로 '환치기'해 무허가로 환전·송금한 혐의도 적용됐다.

A씨는 업체를 '국내 최대 코인 OTC 거래소'로 광고하며 서울 여의도와 강남,대림,맨시티 아스날부천 등 4곳에 점포를 내고 환전영업소로 등록한 뒤 불법 거래를 이어왔다.

'청담동 주식부자'로 알려진 이희진(38)씨와 동생 이희문(36)씨도 이 장외거래소를 통해 코인 판매 대금 등 총 400억원의 범죄수익을 은닉·유용한 것으로 조사됐다.

검찰은 지난 1월12일 업주 A씨를 구속기소하고 이씨 형제도 추가 기소한 바 있다.

검찰 관계자는 "실형 선고를 끌어내 코인 시장의 음성적 자금세탁 행위에 대한 엄정한 수사 및 법 집행을 시장에 경고했다"며 "향후에도 음성적 자금세탁을 조장하는 불법 코인 거래 등의 범죄에 대해 엄정하게 대응하겠다"고 밝혔다．
