(타이베이=연합뉴스) 김철문 통신원 = 대만을 겨냥한 중국의 군사적 압박이 거세지는 가운데 대만군이 유사시를 대비해 탄약을 군 기지가 아닌 종교시설에 보관하는 것을 추진한다는 보도가 나와 논란이 일고 있다.

연합보 등 대만매체는 대만군이 지난달 17일 북서부 먀오리현 퉁러 지역의 도교 사원 3곳에 '탄약 사전 비축지점 지원협정서' 공문을 발송했다고 1일 보도했다.

한 소식통은 이 공문에는 국방부 전민방위동원서 예하 예비군 지휘부가 유사시에 대비해 탄약을 사전 비축 장소에서 도교 사원 내부 공터로 운반한다는 내용이 담겼다고 말했다.

관할 먀오리현 예비군 여단은 이같은 조치의 목적에 대해 "예비군 부대가 탄약을 보충해 부대의 전투력을 지속적으로 발휘할 수 있도록 하기 위함"이라고 설명했다.

다만 대만 국방안전연구원(INDSR)의 쑤쯔윈 연구원 등 국방 전문가들은 대체로 유사시에 대비한 물자비축은 필요하다는 반응을 보인다.

그럼에도 대만인들 사이에서는 "곧 전쟁이 나는 것 아니냐"는 불안감이 커지고 지역주민들도 사원에서 폭죽을 사용할 경우 탄약이 폭발할 가능성을 우려하는 등 논란이 빚어지고 있다고 대만 매체들은 전했다.

논란이 커지자 대만 군 당국은 병참 지원을 강화하기 위한 훈련의 일환일 뿐 실제 탄약을 이동시키는 것은 아니라고 해명했다.

한편,썬시티게스트하우스대만 국방부는 전날 오전 6시부터 24시간 동안 대만 주변 공역과 해역에서 중국군 군용기 6대와 군함 7척을 각각 포착했으며 이 가운데 헬기 2대가 대만해협 중간선을 넘어 서남 및 동남 공역에 나타났다고 밝혔다.
