지난 4월 10일 오후 2시 50분쯤 경기 광주시 태전동의 한 학원가.

1톤 트럭 한 대가 비탈길 도로를 빠르게 굴러 내려가고,회색 카디건을 입은 한 남성이 트럭을 따라잡기 위해 전력으로 뛰어갑니다.

트럭 운전자가 내리막에 주차하면서 사이드 브레이크를 제대로 채우지 않고 내리는 바람에 트럭이 굴러갔던 겁니다.

"언덕바지에 서 있었는데,'어라 뭐지?' 하고 딱 봤는데,후드 야구어르신이 그 트럭 뒤에서 질질질 끌려다니고 계시더라고요."

트럭은 길가에 세워진 SUV와 부딪히고도 멈추지 않았는데,조수석 쪽에서 트럭 운전자가 붙잡아 보려 했지만 가속이 붙은 트럭을 멈추기엔 역부족이었습니다.

포기하지 않고 따라간 남성은 트럭 운전석 문을 열고 훌쩍 뛰어 올라타더니 곧바로 브레이크 페달을 밟아 트럭을 세우는 데 성공합니다.

불과 몇 초 만에 막아낸 아찔한 상황.

[이희성]
"(몸을) 어떻게 욱여넣어서 발을 브레이크 위에 그냥 올려놓은 것 같아요.저 차를 막아야겠다.사고를 막아야겠다.뭐 생각할 시간이 없었어요.그냥 몸이 먼저 움직였어요,후드 야구그냥 그렇게."

주변에는 학원 차량도 많아서 자칫 2차 사고로 이어질 수 있는 상황이었습니다.

순간적 판단으로 트럭을 멈춰 세운 이희성 씨는 당시 급하게 트럭에 올라타느라 왼쪽 발목이 골절돼 치료를 받고 있습니다.

[이희성]
"그때 슬리퍼를 신고 있어서 그때 발목이 돌아갔어요.결과론적으로는 제 발목이 이렇게 골절됐지만,다행이라고 생각하는 건 (사고가 났다면) 그 차주분은 어떻게 됐을 것이며,학원 근처여서 혹시라도 애가 튀어나왔으면 어떻게 됐을까."

경찰은 "이 씨의 몸을 사리지 않는 발 빠른 대처로 추가 사고와 큰 피해를 막을 수 있었다"며 "인명 구조에 기여한 공이 크다고 보고 감사장을 수여했다"고 밝혔습니다.

"정말 대단한 일도 아니고 뭐,추억거리 아닐까요.그런 생각이 들어요,후드 야구그냥.하나의 추억거리이지 않을까."
