동북아역사재단은 재단이 운영하는 독도체험관에서 1794년 영국에서 제작된 옛 지도를 공개한다고 15일 밝혔다.이 지도는 로버트 로리와 제임스 휘틀이 간행한‘신세계지도첩(A New Universal Atlas)’에 수록된 것으로,온라인 슬롯사이트프랑스 지리학자 당빌이 제작한 지도를 바탕으로 한다.

해당 지도의 절반 이상은 중국이 차지하고 있지만 한반도 모습도 비교적 상세하게 표기돼 있다.한반도 지도 위에는‘코리아(COREA)’라는 글과 팔도 명칭이 기재돼 있다.

당시 외국인들이 수도로 오인했던 경기도(Kingkitao)와 각 고을,온라인 슬롯사이트산지,온라인 슬롯사이트하천,온라인 슬롯사이트섬 등도 표시돼 있다.제주도는‘풍마(Fon-ma)’와‘켈파르(Quelpaerts)’등으로 적혀 있다.

울릉도와 독도 또한 지도에 담겨 있지만 과거 서양 학자들이 울릉도와 독도를 표기한 한자를 잘못 이해한 뒤 중국식 발음으로 표현한 그대로 표기돼 있어 아쉬움을 남긴다.

재단은 동해를‘한국해(COREAN SEA)’로 표시한 점을 눈 여겨봐야달라며 “(지도를 제작할 때 참고한) 당빌의‘중국지도’(1730) 등에는 바다 명칭이 표기돼 있지 않지만,이 지도에서는‘한국해’로 표기했다”고 설명했다.
