지난 6월,카지노 장면충북 진천에서 만취 상태로 차를 몰던 운전자를 육아휴직 중인 경찰과 한 시민이 붙잡았는데요.

긴박한 상황에서 검거를 돕고 사라졌던 시민이 사고 보도 이후 모습을 드러냈습니다.

김소영 기자가 보도합니다.

[리포트]

한 승용차가 중앙선을 넘나들면서 아슬아슬한 주행을 이어갑니다.

신고를 받고 출동한 경찰관이 제지하지만 그대로 도주합니다.

면허 취소 수준의 만취 운전자였습니다.

우연히 근처를 달리던 휴직 경찰관과 한 시민의 차량,카지노 장면그리고 순찰차에 가로막혀 10여 분만에 붙잡혔습니다.

[최정섭/충북 청주청원경찰서 경무과 경위 : "앞서가던 시민분께서 음주 운전인 걸 눈치채셨나 봐요.앞에서 (음주 차량을) 막아주셔서 다 같이 협동해서 안전하게 검거한 사건이었습니다."]

홀연히 나타나 검거를 도운 뒤 조용히 사라진 시민은 30대 직장인 박민호 씨였습니다.

퇴근길에 한 승용차가 경찰관이 제지해도 도주하는 것을 보고 '도와야겠다'는 맘뿐이었다고 말합니다.

[박민호/음주운전 검거 도운 시민 : "저렇게 도망갈 정도면 분명히 사고로 끝나겠다 싶어서 일단은 따라갔는데….겁나긴 했는데요."]

관련 사고 소식을 전한 언론 보도를 보고 자신의 이야기인 걸 알게 됐습니다.

[박민호/음주운전 검거 도운 시민 : "무모하게 행동한 것 같긴 한데,좋은 일을 해서 기분이 참 좋고요.절대로 음주 운전을 해서는 안 될 것 같습니다."]

사고 위험에도 더 큰 피해를 막기 위해 큰 힘을 보탠 박 씨는 과거 2년 동안 자신이 의경으로 생활했던 경찰서에서 감사장을 받았습니다.
