임 회장은 18일 오후 서울 여의도 여의대로에서 열린 '의료농단 저지 전국 의사 총궐기 대회'에서 폐회사를 통해 "의사들의 정당한 요구를 정부가 받아들이지 않을 경우 27일부터 무기한 휴진에 들어갈 것"이라고 밝혔다.

임 회장은 "국민의 건강을 나락으로 떨어뜨리려는 자들을 심판해야 한다"면서 "이제 우리는 수십년 간의 관치주의,도르트문트 대 밀란후진의료에서 전문가주의,선진의료로 진정한 대변혁을 이뤄야 한다"고 말했다.

그러면서 "우리가 진정한 의료 정상화와 전문가주의 선진의료를 이뤄내야 한다"면서 "이 투쟁의 길에 의협이 가장 앞장서겠다"고 했다.

앞서 임 회장은 대회사를 통해 "정부는 전공의들을,이 땅의 모든 의사들을 노예가 아니라 생명을 살리는 전문가로서 존중하고 전문가의 목소리에 귀를 기울여야 한다"고 말했다.
