영국의 5월 소비자물가지수(CPI) 상승률이 연 2.0%를 기록했다고 영국 통계청(ONS)이 현지시간 19일 밝혔습니다.

영국 소비자 물가 상승률이 중앙은행 잉글랜드은행(BOE)의 공식 목표치(2.0%)까지 떨어진 것은 2021년 7월 이후 처음입니다.

5월 CPI 상승률은 전달 2.3%보다 낮고 로이터 통신이 조사한 시장 전문가 전망치와 일치합니다.

코로나19 팬데믹과 우크라이나 전쟁의 여파로 영국 물가 상승률은 2022년 10월 11.1%까지 치솟았고 지난해 3월까지 두 자릿수를 이어가다 이후 서서히 하락했습니다.

지난달에는 식품과 여가·문화비,한국프로야구 순위가구 부문이 전체 물가 상승 둔화를 이끌었습니다. 식품과 에너지를 뺀 근원 소비자물가 상승률은 3.5%로 전달 3.9%보다 둔화했습니다.

BOE가 중시하는 서비스 물가 상승률은 5.7%로 집계돼 전달 5.9%보다 하락했으나 시장 전문가들의 전망치 5.5%에는 미치지 못했습니다.

시장에서는 BOE가 꾸준한 물가 둔화를 확인할 때까지는 기준금리를 16년 만의 최고 수준인 연 5.25%로 동결할 것이라는 전망이 우세합니다.

로이터 통신이 조사한 시장 전문가 대부분은 오는 20일로 통화정책위원회가 아닌 8월 회의에서 기준금리를 0.25%포인트 내릴 것으로 전망했습니다.

마틴 사토리우스 영국산업연맹 수석 이코노미스트는 "통화정책위원들은 여전히 급여 상승과 같은 국내 물가 압박 징후를 살펴보려 할 것"이라고 지적했습니다.
