애플패이 外 다른 페이 허용

애플은 14일(현지시간) 새 운영체제(OS) iOS 18.1부터 애플페이·애플월렛과 별도로 보안 요건을 충족한 앱의 근거리무선통신(NFC) 비접촉식 결제를 허용한다고 발표했다.외부 개발자들은 아이폰에서도 애플의 응용프로그램인터페이스(API)를 활용해 간편결제 뿐 아니라 자동차 키,판도라 토토학생증,판도라 토토포인트 카드 등 NFC 활용 앱을 운영할 수 있게 된다.애플은 그동안 보안을 이유로 자사 비접촉거래 서비스인 애플페이와 애플월렛 외 타사 서비스는 차단해왔다.

외부 간편결제 서비스는 이르면 오는 4분기부터 가능해질 전망이다.애플은 다음달 신형 스마트폰 아이폰16과 함께 iOS 18을 공개한다.테크업계에서는 iOS 18의 업데이트 버전인 iOS 18.1은 4분기에 나올 가능성이 크다고 보고 있다.

다만 애플이‘자사 승인’과‘수수료 부과’를 조건으로 내걸었다는 점은 변수다.애플은 “특정 산업 및 규제 요건을 충족하고 애플의 지속적인 보안 및 개인 정보 보호 표준을 준수하는 승인된 개발자만 관련 API에 접속할 수 있다”고 밝혔다.이론적으로는 삼성·구글 등 NFC 결제 서비스를 운영하는 경쟁 업체들도 참여할 수 있지만,판도라 토토결국 애플의 승인을 받아야 하고 애플에 수수료도 지급해야 한다는 의미다.

특히 애플의 NFC 결제 서비스 독점이 반(反)독점법 위반이라고 압박 수위를 높여온 유럽연합(EU)과의 신경전은 계속되는 양상이다.애플은 이번 외부 서비스 허용 대상 국가를 미국 영국 일본 호주 캐나다 브라질 등으로 한정했다.한국은 물론 EU 회원국은 하나도 포함되지 않았다.앞서 EU 집행위원회가 지난달 “애플은 아이폰의‘탭앤드고(tap-and-go·비접촉결제)’기술에 경쟁업체 접근을 허용하기로 약속했다”고 발표한 데 대한 반발로 풀이된다.
